I decided a couple of days back that I will read 52 books in 52 weeks.
This weekend, I had a mini-movie marathon. Every single movie I watched had a writer, someone wanting to become a writer (or musician), a bookshop, or people talking about books. The last one’s a given when you watch something like The Jane Austen Book Club, but not so relevant for the rest. I don’t know what it is about Austen-related movies, but they make me want to read. The last time I read a real novel, was maybe last year, around the time I watched Sense and Sensibility. Besides, it’s always been one of my Secret Dreams to be a writer. But when you can’t write, you can at least read :) Continue reading →

Realized in the middle of lessons today, that 3 years ago today, I arrived in Tokyo! It’s such a cliche, but time really flies~
I’ve always been the type to worry ahead and wonder about a kerzillion possiblities before said event even happens… Or perhaps “worry” is not so much the right word – anticipate? hehe. So, even though my current lease is only up in mid-August (I think), I’ve been wondering if I should move and if so, where to… Every day I swing between YES I’m getting outta here and NAAAAH, I’m staying. And I can spend hours surfing the property websites comparing the different options. It’s terrible!
Basically, it comes down to a few things.
I want to move because
- rent prices have dropped since 2 years ago, so at my current rent, I should be able to get something better, i.e. closer to the station, with a balcony;
- I’m tired of drying my clothes indoors;
- even though I live on the 2nd floor, I can’t really open my windows because I’m too close to my neighbours and it’ll be too noisy for everyone;
- I’m tired of the 12-minute walk to the station (yeah, I’m lazy);
- my monthly train fare is astronomical!
On the other hand though…
- packing is a pain in the butt;
- the good places usually want at least one month of key money and one month of deposit – both of which I may never see again;
- unpacking is a pain in the butt;
- moving is just so disruptive!
- I’ll have to change addresses for so many things;
- oh, and I don’t know how much longer I’ll be here;
- soooooooooo troublesome.
I think I’ll try to bargain with my landlord and see if I can get him to waive the renewal fee. I really find this renewal fee thing so ridiculous!!!! In fact, I think he should give me a bonus for finishing a 2-year contract and saving him the time and money to find a new tenant, and months of non-rental! One of the units downstairs has been empty since March or April I think.
Well, the good thing is I realised my lease is only up on September 11 (of all days), and I’ve managed to hold off the apartment-hunting demon within for a while. If I do move again, it will be my 6th home here in just over 3 years. I must be insane!
