This year, instead of my regular “theme of the year”, I decided to set weekly rules for myself (inspired by Supernanny), in order to keep focused on my goals and direction – mainly physical fitness for the first part of the year, where fitness is defined as not collapsing in a heap after having run around a bit.
For the week of 28th December, the rule was to do a rung of the Introductory Ladder every day. I managed to go to Rung 2, but I missed 2 days. I’m glad I managed to continue the exercise in spite of missing those 2 days though. The New Year holidays are my excuse :)
I can’t remember how I found these Ladders, probably through lifehacker. I haven’t paid much attention to the rest of this e-book, but I find that the Introductory Ladder is a good way to get back to doing a little bit of exercise a day, simply because it hardly takes up any time and I can do it anywhere. Most importantly, the feedback is so instant (i.e. are my heart & lungs dying at the end of the session), I know immediately whether I’m progressing or not.
This is a good fit for me, because I know I don’t have the discipline to put on those running shoes and go for a 30-minute walk/jog, especially in my current shape. If you’re anything like me, you might want to give it a shot too. The big picture plan is to get to Rung 25 of the Lifetime Ladder by mid-year.
This coming week, I decided to do a rung twice a day so as to intensify and build up my cardio fitness more quickly. Let’s hope it’ll happen on all 7 days.
