Day 1: Tokyo – Fukuoka – Kagoshima

I can’t quite believe that the last 2 months have sped by so quickly. It’s all a blur of people coming and going, paperwork and work/study and as a result, I’ve completely neglected this poor baby. I’m soooo sorry. I can’t even think where to start updating, but guess my week-long break’s a good place to start :P

Makiko and I got an early flight but ended up with a terribly delayed takeoff from Haneda Airport. Check out the airplane queue. It’s true – you have to queue for everything in Japan.

Ichiran Ramen in Fukuoka – It was good, but oh so stressful. Everyone ate in their own tiny little booth…

The servers are hidden, you can only hear them, and after they take your order ticket, your bowl of ramen magically appears from behind the red curtain with lots of Japanese written on it.

and of course, because I have never cracked an egg in my life, it came with an instruction slip. So thoughtful.
Day 1 - Fukuoka

After we met Quin, Makiko’s best friend, we hopped on the afternoon train to Kagoshima. Such a pretty train!
Day 1 - on the way to Kagoshima

We had some really gorgeous views along the way. My eyes are so starved of such greenery in Tokyo, I was happy just staring out the window. I love train rides so much.
Day 1 - on the way to Kagoshima

We checked into Hotel Gasthof (so German-sounding right haha) which was conveniently located and cheap, and came complete with Thomas the Train Engine decor in the pseudo-European room. After that, we wandered the streets of Kagoshima. I wondered where everyone was. It felt soooo quiet compared to Tokyo.
