Day 2: Kagoshima – Yakushima

We got lucky on Day 2 and got to the ferry terminal just in time to catch the 7.45 to Yakushima. It was a 2-hour ferry ride, perfect for snoozing :) After we dumped our bags at the homely minshuku in Anbo, we headed for Shiratani Unsuikyo. There’re a number of trails in here, including one named after Princess Mononoke. While it may feel like they are simply capitalizing on the popularity of the film, you can’t deny that something feels magical about this place. Words simply can’t describe it… you have to go there and see it for yourself.

On our way out, we were blessed with a spot of sunshine…
Day 2 - Yakushima

The course wasn’t too long, it took about 2 hours? Though for a non-mountain, non-climbing, extremely clumsy lazoid like me, every now and then something came up to freak me out at least a little. Like rocks. Or having to walk near the edge. It was all worth it though. Maybe one day I’ll go back and take it all in slowly, and take tonnes of green green photos of trees and moss. :D
